In Ellicott City Historic District this year, they had an event called Howl-O-Ween.The event was sponsored by Clipper’s Canine Cafe and VCA Columbia Animal Hospital at Hickory Ridge. It was $10 to participate, and all the proceeds from the event went to the Houston SPCA to help aid them with displaced animals after Hurricane Harvey. We packed up my costumed dog-child and took her to this event to tick-or-treat up and down Main Street.

We got there a little late, so we missed some of the fun like the patio party and costume contest. You were to check in at 5pm and we didn’t end up getting there until closer to 7pm, but my dog, Jazzie, could not have cared less.We still got the gift bag for checking in that we were told to use as our trick or treating bag and headed down the road. Essentially, all the stores on Main Street had someone sitting out front with treats for the dogs. She was thrilled. On top of getting to smell and meet new people and dogs, everyone was giving her treats for her bag. She got to kiss so many dogs and she’ll have enough treats to last her until next Halloween.

It was so hard to take a picture of such a wiggly dog, but she was sporting a coffee cup costume and I was dressed as “stereotypical white girl.” I mean, I thought it was clever…you know, pumpkin spice is big in fall…UGGs…you get it? Anyway, she was super cute. All the dogs were. Each and every one of them had a clever costume on strutting up and down the street collecting as many treats as they could. We saw a retriever in a yellow raincoat with a red balloon attached to his collar as Pennywise, a greyhound in a cardboard bus costume, and a tiny black dog with a white stripe spray painted down his back as a skunk etc..

By the end of the night she was over all the excitement and exhausted. I carried her back to the car, loaded her in, and headed to get some food for the humans. We ate outside at a surprisingly quiet Buffalo Wild Wings in Columbia so she could sit with us. I fed her some of the carrots that came as a side to my wings, and then we all went home treat-wasted.
